GNU Chess
GNU Chess is a chess-playing program. It can be used to play chess against the computer on a terminal or, more commonly, as a chess engine for graphicalchess frontends such as XBoard.
The current version is 6.2.7. Ismarttrain 4 2009. The 6.2.x series includes the following features with respect to previous 6.1.x:
- 'Tighter connection' with XBoard by means of an engine file and alogo, as expected by XBoard (>= 4.6.0).
- A simple man page based on help2man.
- Additional translations.
- Bug fixes.
- New commands.
- Command history enabled by readline.
Downloading GNU Chess

- CAN NOT DOWNLOAD: Some probably encounter the following error: This site can't be reached .sundryfiles.com's server IP address could not be found. DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN. In this case, please use Google DNS and you will get rid of trouble.
- If downloaded file can not be extracted (file corrupted.), please make sure you have downloaded the file completely and don't use Winzip, it sucks! We would recommend using The Unarchiver.
